My name is Alissa Hansen and I am a new yearbook adviser, as well as an English and reading teacher at Clear Creek Amana High School in Tiffin, Iowa. I am also a graduate student working on professional development courses at The University of Iowa. I have my B.A. in journalism and anthropology and my Masters in English education. Currently, I am taking an independent study where I am studying the production of contemporary high school yearbooks with a focus on visual communication.
There are a number of areas that I am exploring including: are yearbooks viable candidates for digital formats, how yearbooks can use social networking sites as promotional/marketing tools, amongst other areas of interest that relate to photography, production, design, and use of graphics. I have researched each of these areas and have conducted interviews with some seasoned journalism advisers.
This blog is the capstone for my project.
